    The Antique Candy Dish

So I forgot this topic was elsewhere. I figured I would keep everyone up to date. We should have puppies on the ground in 2 weeks and I will be doing a weekend puppy sitting. This time I will bring a few devices just for chance something goes on. If you don't have a clue what I am talking about, read my tale below.

I will start off by saying I am the biggest skeptic on earth when it comes to the paranormal. I always look for the logical explanation to odd occurrences. With that said I will try and tell my strange little tale. I'm not much of a writer and I honestly wonder whether I should or not. Here goes...

I have a two very close friends (married couple) who I visit on a regular basis. We are all involved in breeding & showing Rhodesian Ridgebacks so I spend quite a bit of time at their home they share with her parents. Now, about 5 years ago my friends mother passed away in the home. It was very unexpected and upsetting. Her father passed only 6 months earlier so it was very hard on the family. I was at the residence when her mom was found. I called 911 and tried to resuscitate but it was to late. The wake & Funeral followed soon thereafter and the grieving period began.

Fast Forward to 2004 and I am at the home dog & horse sitting. My buds are skiing for the week and I am tending to the critters. I usually will stay at their home and spend the most time in the den. In this den, on a shelf by the window is a small, bone & gold colored covered candy dish. Nothing fancy, but old. It's definitely her mom's. Everyday I walked into this room I noticed the cover was askew. I didn't think much of it and after a while I started to get pissed at the dogs. It must be the dogs because no one else is here. EVERY TIME I WALKED INTO THE ROOM, THE COVER WAS MOVED. I'm thinking the dogs tails hitting it? So, I lock the dogs out of the room and use a different part of the house. Went upstairs with the pooches, had a few brews and slept on the couch. Woke the next AM and forgot all about it. Started the day and went to work. After work, all is well, every ones fed and I'm looking to watch the news. I open the door to the den, walk in and turn white. I spotted it right away. Same thing, the cover was askew. NO ONE ENTERED THE ROOM. It is just me and the dogs and the door was kept shut. I did not go in that room for the rest of my stay.
Now, I tell my buddies and they think its the funniest thing in the world. I asked them to remove the dish and put it some where else. That thing freaked me out. Of course after that they tried to play games with me but that died away. I have scene the dish one other time since then and you guessed it, it was askew.

Fast forward to 2006. Puppy sitting again. This time, I am in the den again but the dish is elsewhere. (And I didn't care where as long as not near me) Sitting around watching the TV and all of a sudden I here footsteps upstairs. Now I know what your thinking, houses make noises, yes I agree but THESE WERE FOOTSTEPS WALKING DOWN THE HALL. And as if to confirm this, the big male dog heard these steps, got up walked to the stairs and looked up with his tail wagging. He heard it too. I turned up the TV and didn't sleep very well.

Last winter, Same thing. This time it was the lights. I would put on a light to leave on while i was gone only to come back and find them turned off. My brother was with me one time and saw me turn them on and lock up. Come back, all turned off. I spoke with my friend again and she too has been hearing voices and seen flashes of brite lights. We are convinced it is her Mom. My friend tells me that I am lucky....because her Mom liked me. Lucky Guy.

I find myself asking permission from her Mom before doing anything in that home, even though I feel foolish. Just In Case ! I will be dog sitting again this February. Should be interesting...

Did I mention that every time I go to this house for dog/horse/house sitting that it snows. Not the little snows but the big 1 foot plus storms. Nor'easter! Happens every time. Place feels like the hotel in the Shining. Why am I posting this now, you ask. Well, I will be dog sitting very soon which means 1) Here comes the big snow. 2)The house is gonna creep me out & 3) Something strange is gonna happen. I'm getting myself mentally prepared.

It kinda freaks me out cause its kinda close to home. My buddy want to investigate it but I would rather not. Again, too close to home.

Just a note. Starting this evening, I will be house/dog/horse/cat/fish sitting. I cant wait to see what kinda fun there will be this time. If anything strange occurs I will let you all know ASAP. I'm telling you.... Its always something with this place. Oh and get ready for some snow. If past events hold true, it will snow sometime this week.
    Wish me luck.

Things have been relatively quiet. i have a lot of things going on right now so I am not spending much time there. However, last night the heat kept on being turned down. I know that sounds goofy but I like it warm. 70*+ I turned up the two thermostats for the house and then went about my business. Hours later, I was chilled, I check the stats and they are turned all the way off. I turned them back on, a little American idol, three beers and out like a light. Woke up in the middle of the night, cold. Again I checked the stats and both turned off. I shit you not. I am laughing, I still think its the spirit of her Mom, I guess shes still saving energy.
It was quiet last night. I taped the stats and nothing moved. Nice and warm.

It was quiet. Other than the incident with the heat, nothing. I had a death in the family at the same time so I didn't spend as much time there as I normally would have. I will be back again the end of April. Lets see what happens then. I just may try a device this time to capture something / anything strange. We'll see......

UPDATE - So, I just finished my latest stint at this house and again had an incident. Again, it was the sound of foot falls in the upstairs hallway. It threw me this time because I thought it was one of the dogs still upstairs. I was letting the dogs out in the early evening (eight dogs) and even though I counted all the dogs as they went out I heard sounds from upstairs. I yelled for whatever dog to get its butt down here. I yelled 2 - 3 times and heard it go quiet upstairs. I figured the dog was now up to no good so I went up. Nothing, not a soul. Nothing fell, out of place, banging, rocking....NOTHING. I went back down to the back yard door and all the dogs were standing there, looking at me like I'm nuts. I locked the door, loaded the dogs in my SUV and we all went to MickyD's for dinner. I had all the lights on the rest of the night.....

Its the Mom. Of this I have no doubt. Never any issues with the house before her & her husbands passing. Since however, the place can get busy. I spend alot of time there helping with the kennel, breeding, caring etc. of the animals, so I was (still am) a fixture there. The Mom always liked me so I guess she's having a bit of fun.... at my expense. LOL

So last time the thermostat moved on it's own, this time should be interesting.
Call me a liar, you knew.
You were a fool, but that's cool, it's all right.
Call me the Devil, it's true.
