    Knapp Seaplane Base

At the end of Jefferson Drive (in Mastic Beach) are the remains of what was once known as Beach 10 (1940) and part of the Knapp Estate. A bulkhead and private dock once stood on this beach and before that a seaplane base.

Erosion has revealed remains of a ramp that was once used to haul the seaplanes onto the shore and into hangars during World War 1. The US Navy Reserve Aerial Coast Patrol Unit 3 which was also known as The Knapp Seaplane Base, 1917.

During low tide early one morning..... this is what we found.

Remains of the old bulkhead and Knapp dock that once stood here.
