Hello Bayshoredude, im a West Islip dude![]()
Enjoy your time here........good people, good conversation, good info.
I grew up in Bay Shore as well. It sounds like we grew up around the same time as well. You may have been a year or two before me. I graduated in 90, and lived just off 5th, near the firehouse. I remember Farmer's Market... from the smells to the sawdust floors.
Yea, I graduated early 80's. Grew up by the Farmers Market, The building on the far west side (used to be baby depot i think) was our baseball field. Remembered when they built that firehouse. Had relatives in there, was going to join, but they are a bunch of clowns.
Hahaha... I was in Smithtown for a long time, left as 1st Lt and went to Lakeland... I think I lasted there 6 months! I found out quick why every house in the district burned to the ground, they were too busy training with high rise packs and as if they were searching a 20 story apt building than 1 and 2 story wood structures... I was going to join here I'm in Plainview but due to a neck injury I can never be interior again. Kinda sad since I have a lot of training, FF2, Haz-Mat Specialist, etc...
Yes, sucks for certain. BS threw out a good friend of mine, one of the most active and most knowledgeable firemen they ever had (this from friends I have there). Kept the racing team guys and the knife and forkers, but screwed a great fireman throwing him out 4 months short of his life membership.
Can't make it up. Years ago, they did the right thing, and people respected them. While there are still many dedicated ones in the vollies, the inmates are now running the asylum. And people laugh at them now. That's a shame.
The knife and forkers were always good... You'd come back from a call and their names would be on the sign in sheet and they'd be long gone, always seemed to miss the truck... The only time you'd see them was when food was served...
