Hi, I have been browsing your site for a while now just never thought to register to talk about the how history changes the landscape.
I'm always interested in browsing the aerial imagery of the island trying to find new areas of "wow look at that".
I read about the Greyhound track and decided to do some mapping on it.
Here's my detective work by method of then and now.
http://www.historicaerials.com/
This mapping site gives aerial images for 1961,1966,1969,1980 and 2004
The site is located at 40.887346,-72.825893
When selecting for 1961, the track isn't built yet. Neither is it for 1966.
3 years later between 1966 and 1969 the trees are finally cleared out for the track.
From years 1969 to 1980 the track looks like it was used. No parking lot though which is strange.
By the time 2004 comes, mother nature has taken over.
So in the commentary on the history of the track can't be correct if the track was operated in the 50's because it wasn't built yet.
I'd say late 60's up too the early 80's till it was abandoned.
Again I'm going on pure circumstantial evidence of having the mapping program tell me the dates.
Thoughts?![]()
