Thread: Yello!

    Yello!

Hi my name is Jim. I got introduced to this site by The Commish. He and I know each other through RC car racing.

This is a neat site with a little bit for everyone. I'm a car nut but I still have a soft spot for trains, and Long Island's contribution to aviation is fascinating to follow.

Quick question, how do you guys feel about posting links to other sites? I know of a site that's mostly for traffic reporting, but they have some great history about the highways in the area, including info on the roads that were never built.

For instance, did you know the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel was originally proposed as a bridge?

I've been wanting to do more on LI's Aviation, it's just the time to do it is not always there some days... I'm really wishing I had of taken shots of Republic before Home Depot went in...

Speaking of car nut and racing... I've got tons of stuff on the old Long Island Motor Parkway, I just need to finish personally visiting what's left. I've got everything from Wantagh Ave east except for 1 small area in Dix Hills I need to try and get to...

I need to put the links back up that we had and I have no problems linking to other sites, one of the factors in your ranking in the search engines is external sites linking to you so I have no issues with doing a link exchange.

And I had no idea about the tunnel being planned as a bridge....

Welcome Jim. When I was driving one of my Polish Photo Models into the city for acting lessons, I used the BQE from the 495. When we
drove over the Kosciuszko Bridge for the first time I asked her if she knew why the Bridge was named after
a pollock. Of course she had no idea and I told her it was because it was supposed to be a Tunnel! This went on for
several weeks and I'd say the same thing every time we crossed it. Finally one trip I totally forgot about mentioning it and she asked me if I knew why it was named after a pollock and i just played the game and said "I have no clue why!" Then she said "because it was supposed to be a tunnel!"

    Thanks for the welcome guys.

When people ask me what I do for work, I tell them I work for E-ZPass. That's not entirely true, I work for the company that maintains the Toll Registry System for MTA Bridges and Tunnels (you would probably know it as TBTA). The MTA keeps some very good records of the past, including some unique photos. One of my favorites is a picture of Robert Moses and Walt Disney standing over a model of the Worlds Fair.

The website I was referring to is www.nycroads.com I found this site through work. I'm sure you guys would be interested in some of those stories.

I've seen that site before, but haven't been on it in a long time... If you read enough of it the site could have easily been called why Robert Moses should have been assassinated...
