Call me a liar, you knew.
You were a fool, but that's cool, it's all right.
Call me the Devil, it's true.
Some can't accept but I crept inside you.

That was the best tasting soda back then when it was packed by the Ice Co in Greenport.

I DID MANAGE TO FIND MANY EMBOSSED 6.5oz GREEN GLASS COCA-COLAS, BUT MOST ALL WERE BROKEN. I FOUND A 1965 RHEINGOLD BROWN GLASS "CHUG-A-MUG" EMBOSSED BOTTLE. THESE HAD THE WIDE MOUTH.
MADE SO THAT THE BEERS WOULD FLOW EASIER THRU YOUR MOUTH AND DOWN THE HATCH...HENCE THE NEED FOR ANOTHER AND ANOTHER....SELLING MORE BEER LOL!

I PICKED UP AN ACL 8oz. KIST SODA BOTTLE WITH THE COMMON CLEAR GLASS, BUT THE ACL LABEL WAS FACE DOWN IN THE DIRT AND BADLY FADED. I FOUND ANOTHER LARGER CLEAR 12oz KIST SODA BOTTLE ALSO FADED.
I FOUND A GREEN GLASS 6.5oz COKE BOTTLE BUT NEWER ACL TYPE. THEN I WAS CURIOUS ENOUGH TO INVESTIGATE A GREEN BOTTLE IN THE BROWN LEAVES (THINKING IT WAS A HEINEKEN), BUT IT WAS AN 8oz GREEN GLASS KIST BOTTLE. BOTH THE CLEAR AND GREEN BOTTLES WERE BOTTLED BY THE GREENPORT ICE COMPANY! I LATER DID A GOOGLE SEARCH ON THIS GREEN GLASS KIST. THE ANSWER WAS BASICALLY UNUSUAL BUT NOT RARE....

I just cannot believe this incredible MILD weather we've been having and all the digging time I've been putting in @ several different places old and new.

I am actually back logged with bottle cleaning. Example: between yesterday and today, 2 different places....25 bottles at least!!

They mentioned the "S" word for wednesdays forecast!

    I CAN'T RESIST LOL!

Today while digging with my buddy Pete and his wife Robin in a local dump hole about a mile from my house, we dug for just over 90 minutes. Me less because I was on the phone a few times. I stuck with a spot that was good the last time I was there about a month ago. I moved dead branches, debris and unwanted bottles from previous visits. Thru my dig, I came upon a large round metal object about 20-24" wide. I unearthed it and it uncovered a plethora of bottles nestled in a fairly cavernous space underneath. I found alot of great (smiling) stuff which I will highlight later.

About 20 minutes before quitting time, I exposed a large mouth brown stopper type bottle. I could only see the top though. I knew there were alot of stones, rocks and pieces of brick plus a huge chunk of cement looming just over the top of this bottle which I couldn't even tell if it was whole or broken. I carefully cleared out the enemies and worked my way around the area which BTW was about 18" below the surface. Once I was able to grab the mouth and wiggle the bottle pretty freely, I managed to slide it out and free it from it's decades old dirt/earth cocoon! It put up such a fight mainly because it had some gross looking putrid liquid inside filling about 3/4's of the bottle up. Even dumping this sludge was difficult and surprisingly, it didn't have an offensive odor to match it's nasty looks LOL!
How this bottle never froze and broke is amazing. I guess it was just positioned in a place where sunlight would keep it warm enough to avoid the inevitable circumstances.

It's a plain jane, no embossments and is more than likely about gallon sized.
Pic on left shows how it came home and right pic shows how it came out after a serious soaking and scrubbing....

I would have to believe this is probably the largest bottle I have ever dug up! Proud of myself!

WHILE THE ABOVE BROWN BOTTLE WAS A COOL FIND, THIS FRANK TUTHILL DAIRY QUART WAS FIND OF THE MONTH! SERIOUSLY, THESE DON'T TURN UP VERY OFTEN AND I WOULD PUT IT IN THE "RARE" CATEGORY....

I'VE BEEN TO THIS SPOT DIGGING A DOZEN TIMES OR SO, AND I HAVE FOUND A FEW BROKEN TUTHILLS. I DID FIND ANOTHER DAIRY QUART FROM BABYLON ON THE RIGHT...ALSO NEW TO MY GROWING COLLECTION! NOW I JUST NEED TO FIND AN UNBROKEN V.H. KIRKUP AND I'D BE REALLY SUPER HAPPY! (I FOUND AT LEAST 3 BROKEN KIRKUPS YESTERDAY! )
