I think they will have limited trains on the weekends...
OLD NEWS TO US EAST ENDERS. WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS ON SUNDAY AT THE SWAP MEET. I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE THAT A PRIVATE ENTITY WOULD BE TAKING OVER THE SERVICE FROM RONK TO GP. I ASKED WHY THEN DO THEY HAVE 2 DBL DECKERS PASSING THRU MY PART OF THE WOODS. SOMEONE SAID IT'S BECAUSE THEY NEED THE WEIGHT TO SET OFF THE CROSSING GATES, ETC. I JUST LOOKED PUZZLED....LOL! FOR WEEKS NOW I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS CUT IN SERVICE ESP WHEN I WALK ON THE TRACKS....THINKING THAT SOMEDAY IT WILL BE ABANDONED. I KINDA WONDER WHAT EAST END ACCOUNTS STILL USE FREIGHT FOR DELIVERIES. I GUESSING NOT MANY EAST OF RIVERHEAD!

MTA cuts shouldn't affect what little freight NYA shuttles down the lines....
I don't know if anyone in suffolk has gotten this "surcharge", but my 6x8 utility trailer went from $14 a year to $57 a year and I'm being told it's an MTA surcharge being levied on all trailers!
WHAT DOES A DMV SURCHARGE ON A UTILITY TRAILER HAVE TO DO WITH THE MTA? THEY'RE NOT EVEN RELATED OTHER THAN A FORM OF TRANSPORTATION. I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS SURCHARGE ON MY TRAILER....YET!

Seems that they are only hitting Nassau County residents with this, because we live close to the city they are taxing us to support the MTA.... I pay an extra $30 a year on all my cars also...Originally Posted by DOC

I heard they proposed to stop the train only in the winter/spring/fall and run it as normal or on weekends only in the summer. Hope that is the case, as I never rode the train from ronk to greenport (though I walked the tracks plenty of times! ;D ) but I really wanted to do it this summer just for the experience.
And when they talk about this, they mean the train wont be going from ronk to greenport anymore, but does that mean the other stations east of ronk will be shut down as well? I believe there is a stop in medford...can't see them closing that one. It gets pretty populated.

I KNOW THEY ARE RE-OPENING THE CALVERTON SPUR THAT ONCE FED INTO GRUMMAN. I THINK THAT SPUR WHEN ACTIVE CAME IN FROM THE EAST NOT WEST.

I wonder why they are going to reopen that spur, are there plans for the property? (Besides the 10 story indoor ski mountain...)Originally Posted by DOC
