    A 1940's time capsule

Not Long Island, but very interesting just the same. I would love to get my hands on some of those items. The place is a gold mine!

VERY COOL. THERE'S A GAS STATION IN NORTHAMPTON THAT'S BEEN CLOSED FOR 30 YEARS AND EVERYTHING IS STILL INSIDE. ONE TIME I NOTICED A BOARD CAME OFF THE WINDOW AND I PEEKED INSIDE TO SEE A MID 60'S CHEVY CORVAIR STILL ON A RACK IN THE "UP" POSITION. HOW THAT'S POSSIBLE AFTER 30 YEARS I'LL NEVER KNOW. LOL!! YOU'D THINK THE VACUUM WOULD LEAK SLOWLY IF THAT IS THE CASE!

Doc, most post lifts have mechanical locks. I am sure the hydraulic pressure would have long bled off, but the mechanical locks (if it has em) would be keeping it up. That sounds really cool. Being a mechanic and a history buff i'd REALLY love to check this place out!

BACK IN THE LATE 80'S (20+ YEARS AGO) I WENT BY THIS SAME STATION AND SAW THAT IT USED TO BE A CHEVRON STATION FROM THE DECALS THAT WERE ON THE PUMPS. I KNOW I HAVE PICTURES SOMEPLACE. AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER, CHEVRON LEFT THE ISLAND AROUND 1984-85, BUT I BELIEVE THIS PLACE WAS CLOSED AT LEAST A DECADE BEFORE THAT.
THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER ABANDONED STATION RIGHT UP THE ROAD ACROSS THE STREET FROM WILDWOOD LANES. THAT WAS TRANSFORMED AT ONE POINT DURING THE EARLY 90'S INTO A DELI WHICH HAD A VERY SHORT LIFE. LAST TIME I WAS THERE YOU COULD WALK INSIDE AND SEE THE DELI CASES AND A SHITLOAD OF OLD TRUCK TIRES. WHAT'S COOL IS THE OLD ART DECO IRON GAS STATION SIGN POST OUT FRONT. I WANT IT!
    LOL!
