    Re: Red Light Cameras

I know all about this. I had a Jamaican woman in front of me on Rockaway Turnpike slam on her brakes when the light turned Yellow. I slid, my wrangler sucked in the rain and I got hit in the rear by a van. She was complaining about back pain, but she RMA'd and 300 bucks later she left. I didn't want to pay her cause she was a jackass, but it was better than having the insurance go up. Red light cameras suck. Oh, did I mention red light cameras suck ass? Oh, I did, wel the do!
Call me a liar, you knew.
You were a fool, but that's cool, it's all right.
Call me the Devil, it's true.

The tickets are issued to the owner of the car not the driver just like a parking ticket, they carry no points....

The cameras do cause more rear enders... It's not the people who just blow through the light that are the problem here. It's those who are already past the point of being able to stop when the light turns yellow who slam on their brakes in an attempt to stop. I've seen people skid through an intersection on a Yellow light where there is a camera installed....

And yes, cameras lack the fundamental tool in VTL enforcement, Discretion!
Thanks for clearing that up Allan. And I agree that a half assed stop (i.e; skidding out into the middle of the intersection, or worse, someone rear ending someone and pushing them into the intersection) could be just as bad if not worse. I think the real issue here is speeding. The reason why people tend to blow lights is because they are either A) speeding B) tailing too close to see the light. More vigilant speed enforcement near intersections may be a better solution to prevent intersection accidents.

I mean really, we could all see reasons why you may have to blow a light...it's all happened to us before. But there is really no reason to go 80mph through an intersection... I see a lot of semi trucks going so fast down patchogue holbrook here that they end up blowing lights full seconds after they turned red. If the trucks were doing closer to the speed limit of 45 instead of doing 65 they probably would have been able to stop with no problem.

I take Niccols road every day to school and sure the speed limit is retardedly too low in certain spots. But still, if im cruising along at 70 which may seem perfectly safe on an open stretch, I still slow down when coming up to intersections in anticipation of a light turning because I don't want to be that person going too fast to stop that blows through the red a second later. Not to mention, even with a green light an intersection isn't the kind of thing you want to blow through doing 70, half asleep while texting. It's one of those places where you should really be more cautious.

Howcome Illegal Aliens never get a ticket even if we all know they have stolen plates from down south on their uninsured cars?
    Should I keep going?
