    odd lights on the 4th

I was in patchogue on the 4th lighting off fireworks for a friends party when I noticed something really weird. I was about to go home when I noticed these glowing orbs in the sky that moved like helicopters but seemed very low. I told me friend and we both ran out to 112 where we could get a better view. They looked like they were taking off somewhere just east of 112 and were climbing then heading out towards the ocean. They would come in pairs for the most part, two at a time and we counted about 16. They were, without a doubt, not any kind of firework or flaming/glowing remains of one. They were VERY large, but when looking at it all you could make out was just glowing light, couldn't really catch the shape of any aircraft around it or anything. My friend who was with me worked for a few years as a jet refueler at MacArthur and has pretty much seen everything from military jets to the oddest of civi aircrafts and he says he's never seen anything like it.

Wish I knew what they were. The flickering glow combined with the way in which they moved almost made me think they were hot air balloons, but you couldn't make out any shape of a balloon above the glow and you'd have to be crazy to be flying one on the 4th of july LOL. I am going to ask my friend who still works as a refueler at MacArthur and ask him if there was anything there that night that may have made strange lights like this.
Another two of my friends saw them and insisted they were 'military jets with the afterburners on' they thought they may have been going to jones beach as part of the show there, but they made no sound, there were about 16 of them and they seemed way too low and flew more helicopter like vs. a jet.

    Weird stuff!

I saw a light green glowing orb several years ago fly over eastern Long Island. It also flickered too, like an electric arc welding torch.  No sound. It traveled in a way that led me to believe it was operating on an unknown type of propusion system.  Got to see it within 200 feet. While I might not label it a ufo, it was some unusual phenomenon. Yours sounds like the results of some experiments at Brookhaven Lab,or the byproduct of said experiments, if it was east of Rt 112. Feel privledged you got to view some advanced technology, whether alien or not. As long as the scientists don't accidentally create a black hole there, I'll be happy!

I finally got around to watching this video and all I want to know it WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? Very strange. At first I thought it was balloons, then I thought reflection off the camera lens but not the way they moved. Is this similar to what you guys saw?

Cool link Bruce. The ones I saw moved much slower, just like helicopters...and weren't as translucent/gas looking. Imagine a big, glass ball with fire inside .

Still, I have no idea what they could have been...
I was watching a commercial for something where these people fill up these balloons with fire/some glowing/flickering substance somehow and let them go into the air. It really looked like what I was seeing only the ones I saw had to have been bigger then the maybe 6 inch diameter ones from the commercial. Wish I could remember what the commercial was for.
