    Slaves Burying Ground

What a gorgeous day today was so I took a ride east with my friend Mary. We wound up in Orient and found exactly what we set out to find. The Slave Burying Ground in Orient. Dr Seth Tuthill, his wife Maria and two children are buried here along with their 20 former slaves.

Thank you so much. Of course, as I re-read your post, it's right there in black and white... (sometimes, I just miss the obvious!)

Looks like most of the slaves have fieldstones to mark their plots. very Cool! Nice to see that this one is very well maintained.

The Tuthills must have thought very highly of their servants to want them buried in the same graveyard with them. Most slave buriels were unmarked and usually outside the bounderies of the cemetery.
