VERY nice job with this Curly! I always knew that house was old but never could find out how old or any info on it. Impressed that you found this out! Nice job!
Where is this? Very cool.Originally Posted by Curly
Holbrooks oldest area is just south of the LIRR tracks along Railroad Ave. Avenue E is one of our oldest roads. (Funny because there are no avenues A - C, Just Avenue E & Dee St.)

There is an Ave. A, B, C just a bit east of there, but of course they don't run in the same orientation (A is the westernmost, then B and C), and they go from just north of the tracks, entirely in Brookhaven. D and E run south of the tracks, entirely in Islip. I'm sure they're somehow related but why can't they just give them regular names instead?
I'm not even going to get into the fact that there's two sets of First and Second St.'s off of Lincoln Ave. 1/2 mile apart!

Yup. Forgot about those. The southern section of Broadway Ave in Holbrook was also part of the early settlement. Mostly vegetable and poultry farms. Most of those old homes are gone and the farms are now subdivisions. I think the last one was the horse ranch that used to be next to Merrimack School. (I got shot in the arse with salt shot by the owner back in the 70's. It still hurts! LOL)Originally Posted by j27t

Cool! Great thread curly! There is a lot of history right by the railroad tracks at the Waverly crossing. Some of the buildings over there look ancient, there is the old, big cement berm for the Trolly and then the Union cemetery started in the 1800's right down the street. Real cool area, too bad it had to take a dump and now is pretty much a ghost town with all the abandoned store fonts.
