    The Black Squirrels of Lake Grove.

    I was heading towards the Smithhaven Mall yesterday and I spotted a black squirrel. It was right by the old Lake Grove school on the front lawn munching on something. Now I was totally caught off guard but managed to turn the car around, break out my camera and he was no where to be found. Now I have seen black squirrels before in areas of the Bronx but never on Long Island. Me, being a nuisance wildlife trapper I have dealt with lots of squirrels but never a black one. I am curious if anyone else has ever seen one around here.

    I've never seen one around here.....I've only seen one ever, and it was this past fall on Roosevelt Island. I was kind of shocked because I've never seen one before, but Billy says he sees them once in a while when working on houses out here.

    Only one I ever saw was near my Aunts apartment when I was a kid. Near the oval in Parkchester/Bronx.

    I saw one a few months ago about 4 houses down from me in Woodmere. I haven't seen one since though.

    Too bad you couldn't get the pic. I've never seen a black squirrel in my life. Now I want to.
