Originally planned to be the New Village Meeting place, the church was officially opened in 1817. The congregation, established in 1815 was headed by Pastor Jacob Corwin as the “Third Congregational Church of Brookhaven”.
In 1845, the name changed to “The First Congregational Church of New Village”. In 1961, the group moved to a larger facility and the church sat vacant until it was obtained by the Town of Brookhaven in 1970. In 2002, it was recognized as historic by the National Register of Historic Places.
The Church actually sits in Lake Grove and New Village to the east was re-named Centereach.
