• The 1964-65 New York World's Fair (Page Two)

New York City Pavilion - The host city of the fair, which is celebrating its own 300th birthday in 1964, presents two major attractions in it's big permanent building. They are an ice show produced by former Olympic figure skating champion Dick Button, and "Panarama Around New York", a simulated helicopter ride over a huge scale model of the city.

Today, the building is home to the "Queens Museum of Art".

The Jordan Pavilion - The government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, whose land is the seedbed of many civilizations and religions, is represented by one of the most striking buildings at the fair. It is a multi peaked and domed structure covered with gold mosaic and sparkling colored glass.

    "The Whispering Column of Jarash"
This ancient Roman column was a permanent gift from the people of Jordan to the City of New York.

The Underground World Home - Something really different in housing is displayed here: a three bedroom house, completely below ground level. It is presented as a forerunner of dwellings that the builder says have marked advantages for todays living.

The site of the underground home. Is it still under there?
