Winfield Hall estate was designed by C.P.H. Gilbert, and constructed in 1916 for Frank W. Woolworth, the Five and Dime King. This 56 room Beaux Arts design mansion, is noted for its remarkable gardens and statuary. The marble staircase alone is estimated to have cost 2 million dollars! It is located in the North Country Colony section of Glen Cove, originally surrounded by other Gilbert commissions, most now lost to the bulldozer. Other owners of this estate included Reynolds, of Reynolds Metal Co. Although not open to the public, one can glimpse the estate while driving along Crescent Beach Road.
