• Riverhead Raceway Indian


    This Muffler Man-style Indian statue guards the entrance to the *Riverhead Raceway. The Indian was originally located at the Danbury Fairgrounds and purchased when it closed in the late 1970’s.


    *Riverhead Raceway is one of the oldest stock car race tracks in the country, opening in 1951 as a dirt track then enlarged and converted to asphalt in 1955. It is a quarter-mile oval that includes a figure 8 course. Many top NASCAR drivers have driven at the Riverhead Raceway at some point in their career. The current owners purchased the track in 1984.
